Democratic state legislator Rep. Scott Hamann goes nowhere with his threat to the President of the United States and is forced to make an apology. Hamann made a public post that highlighted his intention of harming President Trump.
While Maine GOP is calling for Hamann to be dismissed from his position, the Democrat tried to make a phony apology. “I regret my impulsive decision to post something aggressively sarcastic and inappropriate in a Facebook exchange with a childhood friend,” Hamann apologized. “While the tone of the post was born out of frustration with the vile language currently surrounding politics, I should not have responded with the same language. This is not language I typically use, it does not reflect my personal values, and while misguided, it was intended to make a visceral point about the devolving political discourse in America,” he stated.
Although, the post was quickly removed from Facebook, it was noted that Hamann threatened that “Trump is a half term president, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet of that (vulgar term).”
He went on to state that President Trump is “an admitted rapist” and that “Would you be okay with leaving him alone in a room with your wife?”
It further read, “Well then f*ck you, snowflake. You’re a f*cking pussy … See, it’s not only Trump supporters who can talk like complete a$$holes. As long as that’s what’s coming out of that side, then I’ll match you dumb f*cks word for word.”
Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett expressed his discontent with Hamann by stating that the party doesn’t wish to associate themselves with what Hamann had stated on social media.
“The Maine Democratic Party does not condone this kind of discourse – period,” Bartlett stated. “Rep. Hamann’s comments were unacceptable and do not represent our values as a party. He has rightly apologized for them and removed the post,” he added.
Charwoman of the Maine Republican Party, Demi Kouzounas, on the other hand, issued a statement that called Hamann “unhinged and dangerous.”
“Words cannot even begin to describe the level of revulsion I feel after reading Rep. Scott Hamann’s recent tirade that has come to light,” Kouzounas said in her statement.
“Perhaps the most alarming aspect of this tirade is an implied death threat against our president.”
It is to be noted that back in 2015, a Republican and former state Sen. Mike Willette was forced to resign from his position on the basis on an offensive post he had published on social media. Willette had posted content that criticized Obama for failing to handle the Islamic State and stated that Obama dealing with the terrorist group was more of a “family reunion.” Willette was forced to make a public apology and was pushed to resign from his chairmanship.
While, the U.S. Secret Service field office refused to comment on whether an investigation against Hamann has been launched, however, they stated, “we are looking into it, but as to whether an investigation has been opened, I can’t comment on that, but we have been getting messages.”
