NHL Champions Party With The Trumps

NBA and NFL champions have refused to celebrate at the White House… but the new NHL Stanley cup winners, the Washington Capitals, are singing a different tune.

After their Stanley Cup win on Thursday, the team hung out with First Daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner.

Philip Pritchard, the NHL’s Keeper of the Cup, posed for a photo with Trump, Kushner, and a handful of Capitals players—tweeting, “Hanging out in Georgetown with Ivanka,” at Washington, DC, eatery Cafe Milano.

Social media posts from other customers at the restaurant also showed the team entering to a standing ovation.

Ivanka’s father, President Trump, has had a checkered relationship with professional sports… most famously disinviting the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles from their White House ceremony after most players refused to attend.

Trump was also snubbed by NBA stars LeBron James and Steph Curry, who said they would not visit the White House. Trump later announced that he would not invite either of their teams.

But Trump is open to meeting with the Capitals.

“I think we’ll have the Caps, we’ll see,” he said. “My attitude, if they want to be here, it’s the greatest place on earth, I’m here. If they don’t want to be here, I don’t want them.”
