Is NBC Guilty Of “Whitewashing” With Megyn Kelly?

One of the new go-to terms for the radical left is “whitewashing”. Apparently that happens when a black journalist is replaced with a white woman.

That is exactly what happened at NBC when they announced that black journalist Tamron Hall was having her show canceled to make room for Megyn Kelly.

The National Association of Black Journalists do what liberal groups do all the time, complain about racism. They accused the network of “whitewashing”.

“NBC has been a leader for diversity in broadcasting, but recent reports that Hall and Roker will be replaced by former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly are being seen by industry professionals as whitewashing.”

There is one thing that this group is over-looking. Megyn Kelly is a huge star and NBC is paying her millions to join their team. Megyn just left Fox after starting out small and ending with the second highest rated show on the network and on cable news.

Hall was the first black female to be a co-host on “Today” when she started in 2014, but this decision doesn’t seem to be about race. It is about ratings.

Megyn Kelly wanted to leave Fox so she could work in the AM to spend time with her children in the evenings. Her show at Fox started at 9pm and that didn’t give her a lot of time with the kids.

Part of her deal was a different time-slot. Adding Kelly to the morning lineup will certainly help the ratings for NBC, and we will see when she starts in the fall.

NBC defended their move in a statement responding to the NABJ.

“NBC News has a long and proven history as an industry leader in newsroom diversity. We will continue to engage in the running dialogue we’ve had for many years with the National Association of Black Journalists and other advocacy groups to advance those goals.”
