Did you know that in the 80’s the NFL saw competition in the form of a new league?

The United States Football League launched and Donald wanted in. He bought a New Jersey team for an estimated $9 million. Donald called it a hobby, but then decided to make a move.

In 1986, after owning the team for three years, he decided things were not fair. He tried to get the USFL to be broadcast on television, but the NFL blocked the upstart league. Donald and other members of the league sued.

The little league with Trump’s big voice won the suit but received three dollars in a settlement. The league didn’t last much longer and it was Donald’s first big failure in the public’s eye.
