Election day is here and much like the polls two years ago, the media is predicting a big night for Democrats. Will we be surprised again?
If you look at one of the most detailed forecasts for the midterm election, ABC News is saying that the Democrats have an 88.1% chance to win the majority and control of the House of Representatives.
The same forecasters predict that the Republicans have an 81.1% chance to keep the control in the Senate. So according to one of the most detailed polls, the power will be split, but the Democrats will make some incredible gains.
With polls saying there is a 88.1% chance the Democrats will win the House sound a lot like the polls that said Hillary would be president. Of course Hillary didn’t win, but will the Democrats be able to win the House?
On Face the Nation Sunday night, the panel discussed the election and Anthony Walter made a very good point. The polls and Democrats are counting on about 20% of their votes coming from people that have never voted in a midterm election. Mostly young voters who say they will vote, but will they? That is the big question.
If Democrats can get people to vote in these local elections and the people that rarely or never vote go to their polling stations, then it is very likely that Democrats will win the House.
In much of the country the rainy Election Day may keep some people home and if the young Democrats don’t come out, then we could see another upset like we did in 2016.
