Liberal identity politics are turning against each other once more—when Muslim feminist activist and Women’s March founder Linda Sarsour went after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer… for being a white male.
“I’m talking to Chuck Schumer. I’m tired of white men negotiating on the backs of people of color and communities like ours,” Sarsour said, referring to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) negotiations.
“We are not bargaining chips,” she continued. “This is not a poker game.”
Sarsour was speaking at a rally called “A Day of Action Against Trump’s White Supremacy,” which demanded amnesty for all illegal aliens.
She later referred to Trump as a “fascist” and referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement as the “Gestapo” for enforcing existing immigration law.
Sarsour has a long history of courting controversy, especially in regards to her Muslim faith. Most notably, she made statements over Twitter suggesting that she would like to bring Sharia Law to America. She was also accused by a former staffer of turning a blind eye to rampant sexual abuse in her office—allegedly because the perpetrator was a “good Muslim.”
But Sarsour’s comments against Schumer—one of the most powerful Democrats in the country, and a staunch supporter of Israel—signals that the Democrats may, in fact, be losing control of their toxic identity politics.
