A Chicago man has been arrested on suspicion of spying for the Chinese, The 27-year-old Chinese National, Ji Choaqun, has been accused of working with Chinese intelligence agencies.

Choaqun is accused of trying to obtain biographical information on potential new recruits for the Chinese intelligence agency. Some of the targets for recruitment worked in scientific and technology fields. Some are even reported as being defense contractors for the United States.
Ji is a student at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, and a member of the US Army Reserves. Despite not being a citizen, he joined a special program that allows foreign nationals to be recruited.
If convicted, Ji Choaqun could be imprisoned for up to 10 years. The case against the alleged spy is the result of multi-agency cooperation. The FBI, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office and even the U.S. Army’s 902nd Military Intelligence Group all contributed to the evidence finding and arrest of the Chinese national.
Chinese spies have been in the news more and more lately. Recently Senator Feinstein was found to have a Chinese spy on her staff.
