California is prosecuting a man for criticizing Islam.
Mark Feigin, 41, found himself smacked with harassment charges directly from California Attorney General Xavier Becerra—after he criticized Islam on the Facebook page of the Islamic Center of Southern California.
On September 17 and September 25, Feigin posted:
“THE MORE MUSLIMS WE ALLOW IN AMERICA THE MORE TERROR WE WILL SEE”
“THE TERROR HIKE…SOUNDS LIKE FUN.” (Written in response to a hiking event that the Islamic Center was hosting.)
“PRACTICING ISLAM CAN SLOW OR EVEN STOP THE PROCESS OF HUMAN EVOLUTION”
“Filthy Muslim shit has no place in western civilization.”
“Islam is dangerous – fact: the more Muslim savages we allow into America – the more terror we will see -this is a fact which is undeniable”
However, Becerra decided that Feigin’s comments didn’t fall under free speech. His office wrote that Feigin’s comments were “made with intent to annoy and harass members of the ICSC” and are a crime because they demonstrated ““repeated harassment from those who intend to mock and disparage the religion.”
They added that Feigin was “cruel and pointedly aimed at dismissing an entire religion and those who practice it.”
Feigin’s comments might have been inappropriate, but posting on a Facebook wall very clearly falls under the specter of free speech. But California has made it clear that they’d rather take a page out of sharia law than the Constitution.
