A Democratic lawmaker in the California legislature was arrested earlier this week… for child abuse.
Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, a Democrat who represents Fresno, was arrested after teachers noticed his child came to school with noticeable injuries.
Teachers called Child Protective Services, and they found enough evidence to determine that Arambula was responsible.
He’s been charged with a misdemeanor crime of willful cruelty to a child.
Arambula was apparently told by his lawyer not to cooperate with police and, as such, has not released a statement.
But the jaw-dropping accusations have already led California Republicans to call for Arambula to resign.
“California State Assembly Speaker, Anthony Rendon, should ask for Joaquin Arambula’s resignation due to the egregious nature of these charges,” said Fred Vanderhoof, the chairman of the Republican Party of Fresno County. “The Fresno County Republican Party commends the Fresno City Police Department and Child Protective Services for investigating this crime.”
Arambula has not yet resigned or commented on the charges.
