Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez–a self-described “democratic socialist”–has been demolished even by liberal fact checkers, after a series of ridiculous lies.
Calling her “wrong on several counts,” Politifact published an eviscerating article that Ocasio-Cortez’s ludicrous claim that: “Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs. Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their family.”
First Politifact took on Ocasio-Cortez’s claim that “everyone has two jobs,” declaring it false.
“In our review, we found many reasons why unemployment is low, and not for the overwork that Ocasio-Cortez cited,” Politifact wrote. “The biggest factors include strong economic confidence and the long-running economic recovery.”
They added that “multiple job holders account for a tiny fraction of American workers” already–and that, by historic standards, the number of Americans holding down multiple jobs is near the all-time low.
They added that her claim–that people are “working 60, 70, 80 hours a week”–was also “equally dubious.”
Politifact reported that, on average, “Americans aren’t working more today than they have been in the recent past. The average number of hours worked in the private sector has hugged tightly to about 34.5 hours a week since 2006, except for a dip during the Great Recession.”
Politifact ultimately gave Ocasio-Cortez the most severe scolding they could, rating her statement “Pants on Fire.”
