Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a preacher from Atlanta that became the leader of the civil rights movement in the 60’s. Dr. King was a brilliant speaker and a brave American who became too powerful and outspoken about civil rights and the Vietnam war.

On April 4th, 1968 from a hotel balcony in Memphis Dr. King was shot and killed. A man named James Earl Ray was picked up in London at the airport after his hotel room in Memphis was found to have a sniper rifle in it. He confessed, but his lawyer said he was forced.

The thought is that a Memphis police officer shot Dr. King and the department covered it up with the help of several federal agencies. The Department of Justice shot down any case of conspiracy.

After a couple of books and highly disputed evidence the family of Dr. King sued for wrongful death against the police department of Memphis and won. A Memphis jury found a man named Loyd Jowers guilty of conspiracy to murder.
