Weapons Cache found in D.C. Ahead of Trump Inauguration

U.S. Park Police and D.C. Metro Police seized a weapons cache near the C&O Canal last week.

They were alerted to the find by a woman walking the trails near the canal. The women had found a violin case with two guns hidden within it.

When police searched the nearby area, they found another cache of both weapons and ammunition. The Park Service failed to provide specific details of the find other than saying that a number of weapons were discovered that included “long guns and pistols.”

Law enforcement said the guns and ammo were found in bags and buckets around the area.

The second cache was found approximately a quarter of a mile from the violin case in Northwest D.C., which is far from the inauguration route by D.C. standards.

Last week, a shootout occurred near the construction site of a U.S. Consulate in Mexico between the Mexican Army and ISIS-tied Cartel members.

It was reported that the group had planned to carry out terrorist attacks within the United States to disrupt the inauguration of President Elect Trump.

The Park Service has downplayed the find saying that none of the weapons were loaded and they did not pose a threat.

The possession of firearms in the District of Columbia is still effectively illegal (despite a court case to restore gun rights in the District).

Speculation has been fueled by several sites online assuming the guns were placed as part of a plat to assassinate Trump, however, abandoning firearms out of fear of prosecution or arrest is not uncommon in areas that are essentially gun free zones.
