New transcripts from a recent hearing with the Senate Judiciary Committee show former FBI Director James Comey tacitly admitting that Hillary’s email investigation was rigged from the start.
Come admitted he made the decision that he wouldn’t charge Hillary Clinton with criminal wrongdoing months before the investigation finished.
In a letter signed by two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee—Chairman Chuck Grassley and committee member Lindsey Graham—the Senators admit they were stunned to find out that Comey never had any plans to charge Hillary, regardless of what the investigation dug up.
“According to the unredacted portions of the transcripts, it appears that in April or early May of 2016, Mr. Comey had already decided he would issue a statement exonerating Secretary Clinton. That was long before FBI agents finished their work,” the letter read.
They added: “The outcome of an investigation should not be prejudged while FBI agents are still hard at work trying to gather the facts… Conclusion first, fact-gathering second—that’s no way to run an investigation. The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy.”
“It is unclear whether the FBI agents actually investigating the case were aware that Mr. Comey had already decided on the investigation’s outcome while their work was ongoing,” they continued. “However, it appears that the answer to that question may be underneath some of the extensive redactions that the Department made to the transcripts.”
Comey famously announced, in a press conference last July, that the FBI would not recommend criminal charges for Hillary Clinton—but scolded her for bad judgment. The issue would be one of the reasons for Hillary Clinton’s defeat in November, after Comey reopened the investigation due to new evidence less than two weeks before Election Day.
