Trump Takes One for the Gay Community, Enforces Normalization of Mental Disorder

Is Trump following Obama's lead on placating the Gay Community?

Today, President Donald Trump signed a memorandum that pledges to enforce a previous Executive Order signed by Barack Obama.

The order, Executive Order 13672, established protections against discrimination for LGBTQ members while working for federal contractors.

It took effect in July of 2014.

While protections existed based on race, color, religion, national origin, disability, and veteran status exists, before Obama’s signing of the order, “sexual orientation” and “gender identity”, were excluded from protections until EO 13672 was signed.

“Gender Dysphoria” is a mental condition listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders that is published by the American Psychiatric Association.

It was previously listed as “Gender Identity Disorder” and used to diagnose the mental disorder that affects transsexuals and transgendered people.

The Executive Order, continued by Trump, requires federal contractors to hire without bias those with the GID mental disorder.

The Presidential Memorandum released today is below:

President Donald J. Trump Will Continue to Enforce Executive Order Protecting the Rights of the LGBTQ Community in the Workplace.

President Donald J. Trump is determined to protect the rights of all Americans, including the LGBTQ community. President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of LGBTQ rights, just as he was throughout the election. The President is proud to have been the first ever GOP nominee to mention the LGBTQ community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression. The executive order signed in 2014, which protects employees from anti-LGBTQ workplace discrimination while working for federal contractors, will remain intact at the direction of President Donald J. Trump.
