Sen. Toomey Defends Trump Tax Reform Against Media Attack

Sen Pat Toomey
"Are you guys seriously asking me to justify why tax cuts are good?" - Toomey

A television Host – Jake Tapper, in an interview with the Republican Senator Pat Toomey, asked how was it that GOP was already talking about cutting down the Medicare and Medicaid, right after having passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

In his interview, Tapper asked Toomey and the other Republicans claim to curb the federally run programs while providing huge tax relaxations to the wealthiest of Americans.

To this, Toomey said explaining, “We’ve got entitlement spending that is not sustainable. These big spending programs that are growing faster than the economy. You can’t tax your way out of that problem. You’ve got to make some curbs.”

To this, Tapper responded, “But just to play devil’s advocate, you’re going to say that about Medicare, and welfare, and Medicaid, and the like just after you gave me and Anderson Cooper a huge tax break?”

Toomey answered by simply saying “Yeah, I’m going to defend the proposition that tax reform should be about maximizing economic growth, and if we do that, by the way, then we also maximize revenue. And separately, no matter what you do, whether you’re right or wrong on the revenue side, you still have to have a government spending that is growing no faster than the economy. You have to get that right. So I think we got that done to a very large degree with today’s completion of this tax reform, and over time we still need to address these fundamental imbalances in our big entitlement programs.”

The Republicans of both, the House and the Senate, have now focused on the rights to spend as the Congress works tirelessly on moving ahead from the tax reforms that were presented earlier this month, marking Trump administration’s first legislative victory. The tax reforms focus on creating more relief for the common man in terms of increased after tax incomes and creating jobs, and investment opportunities within America.

“We’re going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” House Speaker Paul Ryan had said earlier this month about his plans for the new year, as he was asked about what is next after the successful passing of the Tax Reforms. “We have a welfare system that’s trapping people in poverty and effectively paying people not to work,” Ryan added. “We’ve got to work on that.”
