Dems Not Unified On Gun Control Agenda

Democrats have put together their own version of comprehensive new gun control reform. Senator Dianne Feinstein has introduced legislation which would – among other measures – ban so called “assault weapons.” However, certain key Democrats, like Senator Joe Manchin (WVA) are not as sold on the idea – much like many of his Republican Senate colleagues.

Democratic strategist, Brad Bannon said that “The reason for the tension within the party is pretty obvious. Democrats have no choice but to press this issue. With 69% in favor of a complete ban, they’re on the right side of public opinion on the issue … For the 2020 Dems, a ban on assault weapons is a no-brainer.”

Hillary Clinton criticized rival Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for not being strong enough on gun control during the 2016 Democratic primary.

“No one wants to be the lightweight when it comes to guns and particularly an assault weapons ban,” the strategist said. “They all want to be seen as the ones who really rushed to the forefront and pushed this issue when it really mattered.”

However, he sings a different tune now. Senator Bernie Sanders insists that so called “assault weapons” are, “not for hunting,” but, “for killing human beings.” And that this fact alone justifies a full gun ban.

For his part, President Trump has been actively involved in developing idea for new gun control legislation, such as stronger background checks for people purchasing firearm as well as efforts to prevent certain, dangerous individuals from possessing firearms. Additionally, the President claimed he will meet gaming giants such as Activision, Microsoft, X-Box, PlayStation, and others to determine solutions for gun control. Moreover, the President has called for reforms to end the firearm free school ground policy and to equip school teachers with a concealed firearm to respond to active shooter situations.

He likes hunting, dogs, and supports the troops at home and abroad.
