Cruz Calls For Investigation Into Charlottesville Disaster, Condemns Violence

Senator Ted Cruz (TX) issued a statement on Saturday, asking the Justice Department to start an investigation into James Alex Fields Jr., the man who ran into a group of Antifa rioters in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend.

“I urge the Department of Justice to immediately investigate and prosecute this grotesque act of domestic terrorism.”

The incident caused one death and injured 19 other Antifas.

In his statement on Saturday, Cruz condemned groups and racism, saying, “It’s tragic and heartbreaking to see hatred and racism once again mar our great Nation with bloodshed.” Cruz, who is also a celebrated Constitutional lawyer, also remarked that, “the First Amendment protects the rights of all Americans to speak their minds peaceably, but violence, brutality, and murder have no place in a civilized society.”

Cruz also made a point to remind Americans of the central idea of the founding, and that this “nation was built on fundamental truths, none more central than the proposition ‘that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Following Cruz’s call for an investigation, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the federal government will investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served.

“The Richmond FBI Field Office, the Civil Rights Division, and the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia have opened a civil rights investigation into the circumstances of the deadly vehicular incident that occurred earlier Saturday morning,” Session said in a statement. “The FBI will collect all available facts and evidence, and as this is an ongoing investigation we are not able to comment further at this time.”

The incident, which has left the whole nation shocked, occurred on Saturday when Fields Jr., reportedly drove his car into a group of Antifa rioters who were counter protesting the nationalist protesters, “Unite Right.”

President Trump immediately responded to the violent clashes on social media, saying, “We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Let’s come together as one!”
